Hanford School

Practically one of the first things girls do when they arrive at Hanford is learn how to climb the big cedar tree in the 45-acre grounds, which is scrambled up so often that each of the branches has its own name (‘Catapult’, for obvious reasons, is the highest). And that neatly sums up the joyous, freewheeling spirit of this Dorset girls-only day and boarding school. Here, children are encouraged to remain children for as long as possible: rolling around in the grass, making dens and trotting across the countryside on ponies (the school has its own stables).
