Christ Church Cathedral School

A hidden gem right in the middle of Oxford, this tiny boys-only day and boarding prep has been providing choristers for the city’s cathedral since the 16th century. Here, choristers are most definitely cool, not just the 20 in the cathedral choir (where boarding is compulsory), but also those in the Worcester College Chapel and Pembroke College Chapel choirs (both for day boys). The entire school sings together every morning and there are orchestral lessons and concerts galore, plus the super-popular inter-house music competition. But it’s not all instruments and arias –...

    Bursaries
While Christ Church Cathedral School does not operate a general bursary fund, it does offer specific bursaries to members of the Cathedral Choir. All Cathedral Choristers receive a bursary equivalent to two thirds of fees to support their education at the school and in cases of genuine hardship additional means-tested fee remission may be available up to 100%. On average, four choristers a year join the choir, chosen by voice trial, academic test and interview. Most boys join at seven or eight, although occasional places are available for nine-year olds.

For more information about the Cathedral Choir and the bursarial support available, as well as a more detailed look at the entry process and expectations of Choristers, please see the school’s website:
