Tucked away among the Oxford spires, this small, high-calibre, day-only prep has been educating boys since it was founded in 1379 to provide choristers for New College. Music is still the beating heart of the school – it has a world-class choir and by Year 3 almost everyone learns at least one instrument – but there is no distinction between the chorister minority and the rest.  Most families are local (register early; there are only 16 places in the pre-prep and applications work on a first-come, first-served basis), drawn to NCS for its gently-gently, kindness-rules appro...
