Tonbridge School

Tonbridge is that rare creature: a thriving, top-of-its-game, all-boys boarding school that somehow manages to fly under the radar. It won’t appeal to families who want to wear the label on the outside - it is notoriously hard to land a helicopter here (we hear there has been one in the past decade), and there are no former prime ministers on its Old Boys’ register. But with its strong academics and stellar sports, we’re not surprised that its numbers are healthier than ever, with applications for boarding places going through the roof....

    Bursaries

Tonbridge offers around £2.5m in fee remissions each year. Means tested bursaries are available upon securing one of the many scholarships on offer.

Junior Foundation Scholarships are offered in Year 6 (for entry to Tonbridge in Year 9) and are available to boys in maintained primary schools and preparatory schools who might not be able to consider Tonbridge without financial support. Applicants are means tested, and families with a joint income below £70,000 pa, with modest assets, may qualify for full-fee remission; the ceiling is around £140,000 a year.

Tonbridge also offers means tested bursary support to scholars if the need is recognised by the school. Scholarships are awarded to boys in Year 8 for entry at Year 9 and are available in Sport, Music, Drama, Design Technology and Engineering, Art and Academia.
