St Swithun's School

This all-girls senior school in Winchester has long had a reputation for being academically sound. But with efficient headmistress Jane Gandee at the helm for the past decade, it has also moved towards a more well-rounded approach that puts equal store by out-of-the-classroom activities. Results are consistently strong: last year’s leavers achieved 86 per cent A*-B at A-level and earned places at top universities such as Oxford, Bristol, Durham and Exeter. There’s a prep school for ages three to 11 (with new head Jonathan Bough starting in September); the main intake for the senior school is at 11+, when places are offered to those with the potential to best keep up in lessons.  ...

St Swithun’s offers bursary awards at 11+, 13+ and 16+ of up to 100 per cent of fees, decided by financial review and reassessed annually. Students in receipt of a bursary are expected to make good academic progress but are not selected beyond the normal entry requirements for the school.

In 2019 St Swithun’s relaunched the Bramston Bursary Foundation, specifically for girls in or on the edge of the care system. The Foundation aims to offer 100 per cent bursaries and works alongside local authorities and charities.

The school also offers a number of 20% boarding bursaries to new regular HM Armed Forces families drawing CEA and joining the school.

See below for more information about both the school’s bursary opportunities and the work done by the Bramston Foundation:
