As one of only four specialist music schools in England, Wells Cathedral School is utopia for budding musicians – and summer music courses here open up the school’s hallowed doors to students from all across the globe. Anyone is welcome, as long as they have a basic ability to play their instrument and read music: courses run the gamut from wind, brass and percussion for young musicians looking to boost their confidence, to intensive chamber music weeks open to pupils who have reached Grade 7 or above. Tuition is at the very top of its game: students are treated to masterclasses, workshops, Q&A sessions with leading music professors and endless opportunities to perform – and there’s a bumper concert for family and friends at the end of the course. And it’s not all music – downtime might see pupils getting stuck into sport or exploring history-steeped Wells, the smallest city in England. More actively-inclined children can also sign up for multi-activity sports camps throughout the summer, which make full use of the school’s top-notch sports facilities, including its state-of-the-art Astro, tennis and netball courts and climbing wall.
