Bursaries
The school aims to enable more pupils with talent and potential to access a Mount Kelly education, who could not otherwise afford to do so. Bursaries are usually awarded for pupils from Year 7 and above, however, the school is willing to consider applications from lower years. All bursaries are means tested awards based on family circumstances. They are awarded on an annual basis and subject to review.
The school provides around £800k of means tested bursary support per year. Means tested bursaries are available to augment Scholarships, but pupils do not need to win a Scholarship in order to be considered for a bursary. However, bursary candidates, day or boarding, are those who show promise in some area, be that academics, sport, the arts, music, football or swimming.
The Westall Sixth Form Academic Scholarship is offered to pupils who live within 30-miles of Mount Kelly, who would not otherwise be able to afford the fees to benefit from a Sixth Form education. The amount offered is up to the value of the full day fee, awarded annually. The school also supports SpringBoard and Cumberland who are charities with fully paid places, funded by the Mount Kelly Foundation. The Prestigious Schools Programme, with Cumberland School in Newham, offers transformational bursaries for high-achieving pupils from deprived London Boroughs as fully funded sixth form places, awarded annually. The Royal SpringBoard Foundation Scholarship Programme looks to provide social mobility through access to great educational opportunities.
As a general guide, gross parental income will need to be below £80,000 per annum to be considered for a bursary for a day place and below £100,000 for a boarding place. However each case is considered on an individual basis and the number and size of awards made in any category will depend on the size and quality of the field and the availability of funds.
