282 pupils, ages 2-13

This gem of a prep school on the Surrey-Sussex border isn’t always on people’s radars – but it should be. ‘It’s the best school people don’t know about,’ one parent told us. Learning is brought to life with immersive lessons – actors turn up in character for topics such as the Second World War with pupils dressed up as evacuees. The grounds are enchanting, with a beautiful woodland (lots of lessons happen outside), a storytelling throne and Woody the Wizard, a life-sized statue carved from a tree. And the pupils are some of the happiest we&rs...

The senior leadership team, and school governors, have developed Pennthorpe’s bursary offering in order to help families who would otherwise be unable to send their children to the school. A means-tested bursary system offers potential financial assistance, depending upon the circumstances of each applicant. The size and duration of bursary support will depend upon each applicant’s financial circumstances.

Pupils do not need to qualify for a scholarship in order to be considered for a bursary. All bursaries are means tested on an annual basis, and can be awarded in combination with other concessions (e.g. bursaries may be awarded to pupils already receiving a sibling discount), although this will also be taken into account when determining the amount to be granted.
