Lady Eleanor Holles Junior School
One of the more aesthetically pleasing buildings on the LEH campus – a walk across the sports fields and a bridge above a bubbling brook – Lady Eleanor Holles Junior School is a former boarding house converted into a vibrant, high-flying prep. No hothousing here, but certainly no slouching on the academic front: girls need to pass a series of tests to get in at 7+, and if they’re not eager to learn, they won’t make the grade.
Facilities are fab. Pupils reap the benefits of the senior school’s 24-acre campus, sharing the super theatre, slick music school and pitches, courts and fields galore. Heavy setting is eschewed for growth mindset and cross-curricular, interactive learning (we stopped in on a hand-bell class where the teacher asked pupils what language she should count them in on).
Junior girls get access to the same brilliant coach network as the older girls, but the catchment area narrows – there’s certainly more of a local vibe here. If you want in to the senior school, this is your golden ticket: everyone moves up automatically, unless it’s blindingly obvious that a girl would struggle....
