Hill House School
‘Unique’ is a much-overused adjective but Hill House truly is a one-off. The distinctive uniform makes its pupils easy to spot around Chelsea, and just like those mustard-coloured jumpers and amber-corduroy breeches, this is a school that exists in a terrific time warp – and it’s still owned and run by the original founding family.
A health-and-safety blip hit the headlines a few years ago (Ofsted didn’t fully appreciate some of the more laissez-faire elements of daily life at the school), but rather than slinking off and sulking, Hill House took the criticism on board and pulled its socks up. Academic excellence is part and parcel – these pupils hop off to a glittering array of top day and boarding schools. But the most important thing here is making sure they are happy and helping them thrive, resulting in an extraordinary deep-seated loyalty from staff, parents and pupils past and present....
