Cothill House

This 150-year-old school is comfortable in its own skin and doesn’t feel the need to shout about itself. Cothill House is traditional and quirky at the same time, plus it puts a high priority on giving boys time to enjoy being boys. Climbing trees, kicking balls and looking for crayfish in the streams behind the school are as much part of learning as lessons in the classroom – but for a gently selective place, its output to the top tier of public schools is really impressive. Bursaries
Bursaries at Cothill are overseen by the Cothill Trust, which offers students entering in Year 5 or above up to 100 per cent means-tested fee remission. The process requires a full financial review of a family’s income, expenses, assets and liabilities, together with a home visit that is undertaken by a third party on behalf of the school. The key determining factor in the decision to award a bursary is need.

The school also offers a flat fee reduction of 25 per cent to serving members of the armed forces who are in receipt of CEA.
