Putney High School

Exciting things are happening at Putney High, one of the brightest stars of the GDST stable. Applications are rocketing, a wave of refurbishment has breathed in new energy (the Girls’ Day School Trust is investing millions) and girls are excelling in the classroom and on the sports pitches. Offering an all-through education from four to 18, Putney produces sparky, ambitious girls who aren’t afraid to think differently or find their voice. The school celebrated its 125th birthday in 2018 – and we think it’s simply getting better with age....

A part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, with around a fifth of all girls across the group receiving some form of financial assistance towards fees, Putney offers bursaries for entrants at Year 7 and Year 12. As a guide, it expects that a total family income of between £36,000 and £41,000 a year would make a girl eligible for a full bursary, with an upper limit of around £91,000. There is some consideration of academic ability in the decision to award bursaries, which are expected to remain for the student’s entire time at the school, albeit with yearly reviews of the amount awarded.

Bursaries usually range from 100 per cent to 30 per cent on a sliding scale, and scholarships (music, sport and sixth form) and bursaries can be combined. The school does receive more demand for bursaries than it is able to provide, so competition is a factor.
