A celebration of GCSE results at Queen Anne’s Caversham
There was a fantastic buzz at Queen Anne’s School on Thursday morning with students collecting their GCSE results. This year we are celebrating all of our students’ achievements over a broad range of subjects from Maths to Art to PE, with 25% of grades at the top grade 9, and 67% of grades at grade 9-7
The Upper 5 (Year 11) students performed magnificently, achieving one of the best sets of results in the school’s history. With national results returning to 2019 levels, the school was thrilled to see this year’s cohort top pre-covid levels. Well done!
Our students excelled in the core subjects with over 70% receiving 7-9 grades in Maths and a 100% pass rate in English Language with over half (55%) achieving the top grades 8-9. At Queen Anne’s, students can choose whether to sit separate Science exams or the Combined Science (Trilogy). This allows them to specialise and to ensure they are studying the areas that will enable them to pursue their interests in further education. Combined Science has a 100% pass rate with 43% gaining 8-9 grades. What a fantastic achievement! In Chemistry, girls really excelled with 63% achieving grades 7-9, with Physics a close second at 61%. In Biology over half of all students gained 7-9 grades, maintaining the stellar standards.
This year, our PE department led by our Director of Sport, Miss Laura Cox, are especially proud of their students with over a third gaining 9s and 85% receiving grades 7-9. Miss Cox said “A special mention must go to Mrs Jade Evans, an outstanding PE teacher, and the girls who worked exceptionally hard throughout the course.”
A special mention goes to Eleanor Biles who achieved 10 GCSE’s, having sat her Maths paper early in November 2023, achieving a 9, to then go on to take Further Maths and gain another 9! Eleanor took a fantastic range of subjects including History, Computer Science, Further Maths and Music. Eleanor joined Queen Anne’s in Year 7 from Caversham Primary School and is looking forward to continuing in Sixth Form at Queen Anne’s.
It is always fantastic when the whole family celebrates their daughter’s results, and the Spellman family did just that! With 9 amazing GCSE results ranging from Physics, English (Literature & Language) to Art and Music, Milly was awarded all at the top levels of 7-9 including an impressive five 9s!
Another student with outstanding results is Eliza Nasehi, who achieved a fantastic mix of 7s, 8s & 9s in her subjects which included French, PE, Physics and Religious Studies. She really embraced the breadth of studies available at Queen Anne’s. The Art department were also celebrating, in particular 64% of Textiles Design students who gained 8s and 9s.
Queen Anne’s would like to congratulate all of the Upper 5 students, and can’t wait to see them in September as they continue their journey with Queen Anne’s in the Sixth Form.
