Repton School pupils help feed the community with Thomas Franks

Pupils from Repton School and Repton Prep teamed up with the Thomas Franks Foundation to cook, package and deliver 600 meals to South Derbyshire CVS and Derbyshire YMCA in support of vulnerable people in the local area.

Thomas Franks’ Feeding Communities initiative utilises their resources and expertise to produce made-up food parcels and freshly prepared meals. The meals were produced on-site in the Repton Prep kitchen with assistance from Repton pupils and staff and support from our local butchers, Owen Taylor & Son, who kindly donated 40kg of chicken for the delicious curry.

Repton pupils then benefitted from an assembly on food poverty, led by Dean, Head of the Feeding Communities initiative at Thomas Franks.

Repton’s Head of Catering, Greg Smith, and the driving force behind the initiative told us “It was a pleasure to support the fantastic work the TF Foundation do, especially in helping the communities local to us.

We had the assistance of 35 pupils, ranging from Year 4 to Lower Sixth, all of whom played a huge part in making this happen, so a special thanks to them. And thank you for the invaluable support of our catering team at Repton Prep, producing the food on top of their usual day to day duties.”

Raj Singh, Director of Charity at Thomas Franks commented: "The Thomas Franks Foundation are proud to partner with Repton School on projects around food poverty. Students have been involved in a large meal production project to benefit the local community and promote citizenship.

This collaboration exemplifies our commitment to fostering positive change through education and community engagement. We are excited about the impact of this partnership and look forward to expanding and deepening our collaboration with Repton School in the future.”

Philanthropy is the foundation stone upon which Repton School was created in 1557. Our Community Action programme is an important part of the educational experience for Reptonians and pupils are encouraged to regularly take part in local volunteering activities and give back to local community initiatives.

At every stage of a Repton education we aim to instill in our pupils a sense of perspective and develop a culture of tolerance, openness, empathy and collaboration to support the ideology of good global citizenship.
