Leighton Park appoints new Assistant Head: Director of IB Diploma
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Kees Luteijn as our new Assistant Head: Director of IB Diploma. Kees will start at Leighton Park in September 2024.
This is a new role and reflects Leighton Park’s commitment to investing in this excellent international qualification, which complements Leighton Park’s interdisciplinary, problem-based and values-led learning approach so well.
Kees secured a unanimous decision from the interview panel as part of a rigorous recruitment process. He comes to us from Reading School, where he is part of their Senior Leadership Team, with responsibility for Culture and Sustainability. Reading School achieved State Secondary School of the Year – South East England in the Sunday Times Schools Guide 2024. Kees brings with him an incredible track record of academic excellence and supporting students to achieve exceptional results.
Kees really impressed the panel with his clear intellect and impressive drive. His understanding of, and affinity with, the IB Learner Profile really shone through, as did his commitment to a broad, character education. He is a strong advocate for sustainability and is keen to see how the UNESCO Framework on Education for Sustainable Development can be incorporated into the IB learner profile, with such keen complementarity in key competencies such as self-awareness, critical thinking and values-led learning.
He is a Geography Teacher by trade, achieving a First Class Master in Arts from Durham University, and is an Associate Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. He is currently studying for his National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership.
Our students will be very excited to hear that Kees brings a passion for watersports with him to Leighton Park and is a paddlesport instructor and is training to be an expedition leader.Read more about our IB Diploma Programme.
