Taunton School Sixth Form student gains unconditional offer from University of Cambridge
A student at Taunton School Sixth Form has received an unconditional offer to study Veterinary
Medicine at the University of Cambridge, one of the UK’s most prestigious universities.
Helen, a gap year student at the Somerset-based Sixth Form, also received unconditional offers from two other universities, and a conditional offer from a fourth. Joining Helen are three other students who also received unconditional offers from several universities, including five in the Russell Group.
Helen commented: “I am absolutely delighted to receive an unconditional offer from the University of Cambridge and that all my hard work at Taunton School Sixth Form has paid off. I’m really grateful to all my teachers for helping me get here, not only through the education provided over the last two years, but also with their personal support and encouragement.”
This has been a particularly successful year for Taunton School Sixth Form students, receiving more than 295 university offers, including 99 from Russell Group universities, with four months to go before the UCAS deadline.
Alice MacNair, Head of Careers at Taunton School, said: “We are delighted that our current Year 13 students have achieved such a wonderful range of university offers, from Medicine, Law, and Ancient History, through to Cyber Security, Tropical Marine Biology, Veterinary Medicine, and Global Sustainable Development. The diverse degrees our students have chosen will stand them in excellent stead for their post school pathway.
“On top of this, to receive 99 offers from Russell Group universities is an achievement on its own, let alone receiving more than 295 offers overall from this year's UCAS cohort. This is a real testament to the quality of teaching available at Taunton School and the hard work our students have put in, so we should all be very proud.”
The Russell Group is a list of 24 universities across the UK with a reputation for academic achievement and a focus on research. Universities in this list, which includes the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, tend to be viewed as the most prestigious in the country.
Taunton School Sixth Form is a key component of the wider Taunton School campus and community. With a contemporary, built-for-purpose, Sixth Form centre opening in 2022 inside the main 19 th century building with its iconic Gothic clock tower, this is seen as one of the top choices for further education in Somerset.
The Sixth Form uniquely offers four pathways to higher education which enables each of its students to choose the correct journey for them, leading to 96% going on to university. Students will now be working hard towards their final exams before eagerly awaiting their results in the summer.
