New Director of Music for Horris Hill

Horris Hill is delighted to welcome Caspian Mitchard to the teaching team as Director of Music.

Caspian joins the school following six years as Deputy Director of Music and Assistant House Master at Summer Fields School in Oxford, and has also taken posts at the Dragon School in Oxford and Lambrook School in Bracknell. He comes to Horris Hill with a wealth of experience, gained from both performing and teaching at leading institutions over his career.

After beginning to learn the organ aged twelve, he won several competition prizes as a teenager, including the International Oundle Organ Festival Bach Prize, whilst gaining two ABRSM Diplomas and five Grade 8 Distinctions. Caspian holds a degree in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge and is a keen sports coach, with cricket his primary passion outside of music.

In addition to his responsibilities in the school’s Music department, Caspian will be taking on the role of Assistant Houseparent in The Hill boarding house, providing invaluable help and support to the Boarding and Pastoral team.

Caspian said: “I am delighted to be joining a school that offers so many musical opportunities, and can't wait to get stuck in encouraging all Horris Hill students to partake in the manifold benefits that learning a musical instrument, or singing in a choir, or playing in a band, promises to every child.”

Rob Stewart, Headmaster of Horris Hill, said: “Music is a crucial aspect of Horris Hill and we look forward eagerly to the opportunities and activities that lie ahead for pupils at our school.”
