Horris Hill Take to the Stage

A truly ‘glorious’ performance took place on the 9 th December 2023, as children from Years 4, 5 and 6 from Horris Hill School in Newbury took to the stage with their production of Oliver!
The cast, supported by Miss Lawes, Head of Music, and guest drummer, Year 8’s Fintan, performed the classic musical, adapted from Charles Dickens’ novel to their families and fellow students.

Featuring beloved and well-known numbers such as Consider Yourself, Oom-Pa-Pa and As Long as He Needs Me, the children took on the famous roles of Bill Sikes, Fagin, Nancy and, of course, Oliver Twist with great flair. They also served as stage crew, bringing set on and off as needed. Coming together as one unified team, the three year groups created a show to be proud of.

It had been a week of great theatrical performance at Horris Hill, with the Lower School and Nursery performing their Nativity on the same stage only days earlier. Rob Stewart, Headmaster of Horris Hill, said: “Oliver provided all our children in Years 4 to 6 with their first opportunity to take part in a major production with both singing and speaking parts. It was also our first full production as a co-educational school, providing some fantastic roles to showcase the additional enrichment that girls can bring to drama at the school.”
