Hazlegrove children and parents compete on the international sporting stage
Children and parents from Hazlegrove Prep School represented the UK at the World Laser Run Championships as well as their team of riders reaching the finals at the prestigious National Schools Equestrian Association National Grassroots Finals.
It was a mixture of Laser Run and Horse Riding for members of the Hazlegrove community during the summer holidays.
Four current HZG children and two Old Hazlegrovians as well as an ex-HZG parent competed alongside athletes from around the world in the World Laser Run Championships. The championships took place at Bath University alongside the World Pentathlon Championships and was a brilliant weeklong event. Meanwhile, the HZG riding team travelled to West Sussex to the prestigious Hickstead Showground to compete in the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) National Grassroots Finals – something for which they had worked hard throughout the year to qualify. HZG teams competed in both the 60cm and 70cm Finals and all of our riders and ponies performed well.
Sport is an integral part of the school day at Hazlegrove for all pupils from the Nursery to Year 8. The grounds and indoor sports complex provide excellent facilities and all pupils are encouraged to join in and enjoy learning a wide variety of sports. There is an emphasis on the development of physical fitness and co-ordination as well as skills and control.
Head of Upper School and Girls' Sport, Mrs Cobb said, ‘It was fantastic to see our HZG children mixing with athletes from around the world and alongside past and present Olympians. The Laser Run athletes all did brilliantly, with two children reaching their respective finals, whilst the children who took part at Hickstead all performed really well reaching the finals. What an incredible achievement!'
