Canford - An Award Winning Education
We are delighted to start the new academic year continuing success stories in our Centenary year, with a record school roll of 662 pupils, and selection in national and regional awards for Canford’s high quality educational experience.
Our centenary year has been marked with numerous celebrations, and we are delighted to start the new academic year continuing the success stories with a record school roll of 662 pupils, and selection in national and regional awards for Canford’s high quality educational experience.
Our Drama department is a finalist in two prestigious industry awards. The Talk Education Awards for Innovation in Education see Canford as a finalist in the Creative Arts Award category while The Independent School Parent 2023 Independent Schools of the Year awards have selected Canford’s Drama on the shortlist for its Performing Arts category from entries from schools across the UK and abroad. This is fantastic testament to the quality of our Drama department – congratulations to the entire team!
Canford is also a finalist in the inaugural School House Awards 2023 in the Local Partnership and Community category, sponsored by the Independent Schools Examinations Board (ISEB). School House have written to us to say “Our judges were very impressed with your entry and enjoyed hearing about the positive work you are carrying out as a school.” Canford’s Community work will feature in the Autumn edition of School House magazine which is distributed far and wide across London and the South as a result. Well done to all involved in our Community Action programme, which sees over 8,800 hours of voluntary work given by our pupils to local, regional and international communities every year. Canford is also one of only a handful of independent schools in the country which fully sponsors an Academy School, The Bourne Academy in East Howe, Bournemouth, with close collaboration and mutual benefits for pupils and staff at both schools.
Final decisions by judges in all the awards will be made in the coming weeks.
These latest accolades add to those earlier in 2023 which include The Sunday Times Parent Power No.1 Co-educational Boarding School in the South West for A Level Results, TES (Times Educational Supplement) Schools Awards Boarding School of the Year (Finalist), Boarding School Association Excellence Awards for Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative of the Year (Canford Sleep Programme - Winner), HIEDA Health and Wellbeing Award for All-Round Excellence (Winner), Muddy Stilettos Award for Originality in Teaching Music and The Arts (Canford Music – Finalist). Canford was also rated by The Week ‘Best of the Best’ Independent Schools this year in the most beautiful school setting category for its stunning 250 acre campus and landscaped grounds.
Headmaster Ben Vessey commented:“We are very proud of everything our talented pupils achieve across academic and co-curricular school life, supported by a team of teaching and support staff who really go the extra mile every day to offer each individual the best possible full boarding school experience in all aspects. It is wonderful to receive ongoing national recognition for what we do, and it is particularly special to be selected in so many different areas during our celebratory centenary year.”
