Appointment of Mr Huw May as Head of Kensington Wade
Kensington Wade is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Huw May as their new Head, effective from September 2023. Mr May joins Kensington Wade from Eaton House Belgravia where he is Head of School.
Huw May is a highly respected leader in the preparatory school sector. He joins Kensington Wade from Eaton House Belgravia where he is Head of School. Mr May has been a head within the Eaton House Schools group for the past ten years and was previously Head of Roedean Junior School and Sydenham High School Prep (part of the Girls’ Day School Trust).
Mr May’s deep experience of leading top-tier independent schools accords directly with Kensington Wade’s focus on quality and breadth of education for every pupil. He has an exemplary track record in the preparation of pupils for entry to the country’s best senior schools, having extensive contacts and relationships in the senior school market. He is also an experienced ISI inspector.
Prior to his career in independent school education, Mr May trained and worked as a professional classical singer at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He looks forward to expanding and developing the musical life of the school, which he believes is central to the development of young people as part of a wider cultural enrichment.
Mr May grew up in a bilingual school setting in Wales and has first-hand experience of bilingualism, as well as an appreciation of the cognitive and personal benefits which a bilingual education can give to young people.
This appointment follows a thorough selection process in which candidates from a range of educational backgrounds were interviewed and assessed by a panel, led by the school's Chair of Governors, with the support of specialist education search consultants at Perrett Laver. The panel was particularly impressed by Mr May’s expertise, enthusiasm for and understanding of the unique character of the school.
Mr May commented: ‘I am excited to be leading Kensington Wade, building on the superb achievements of my predecessors, working collaboratively with the excellent teachers, the Governing and Executive Body and parents.’
