International Swimming Selections for Repton Pupils

For the first time in Repton School's History, we have two pupils who are part of the high-performance swimming program, representing Team GB at the European Junior Swimming Championships in July 2023.

British Swimming has announced the 34-strong team selected to represent Great Britain at the 2023 European Junior Swimming Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

The annual competition showcases the best up-and-coming talent in Europe. Following their recent performances at the British Swimming Championships in Sheffield, pupils Hannah Bowley (Upper Sixth) and Laurie Devine (Lower Sixth) have become Repton’s first-ever high-performance swimming athletes selected earlier this month to represent their country on an international stage.

Hannah Bowley qualified by securing the 200m Breaststroke Consideration Time and will compete in the Breaststroke events. Laurie Devine qualified by achieving the 50m Freestyle Consideration Time and will compete in the Freestyle events.

Director of Swimming, Ash Morris is delighted with Repton’s first International recognition; “As an upcoming swimming programme, it is fantastic that we have two of our swimmers selected to represent their country for the first time – they should be extremely proud and enjoy the opportunity.

As young swimmers, they will forever be a big part of the Repton legacy and will inspire swimmers within our school”.

It is also a momentous occasion for Mr Morris, who will join the team in Belgrade as part of the GB coaching team, where he will coach and support a small group of swimmers. Mr Morris joined the School in November 2022 from Hamilton Aquatics in Dubai and the positive impact he has made to Repton's high-performance swimming programme so far is evident.

Repton’s Headmaster Mr Mark Semmence is delighted with the selection results saying: “Since establishing itself as one of Repton’s focus sports, swimming here has gone from strength to strength. That Ash has been able to take the helm of our already successful and fast-developing programme without missing a beat, further accelerating and elevating the performance of these supremely gifted pupils, is an impressive feat for which we are most grateful."

The LEN European Junior Swimming Championships is one of the world's most prestigious swimming competitions for junior athletes. This year the championships will be held in Belgrade, Serbia from 4 to 9 July 2023.
