Giggleswick School, one of the North’s leading independent day, boarding and flexi-boarding schools, has launched a bus service from York which will run weekly. This will enable pupils from the York area to return home once a week while taking advantage of all the opportunities boarding provides.

Giggleswick School was founded in 1512 and is set within 215 acres between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Forest of Bowland. It was recently nominated for Independent Prep School of the Year and Independent School of the Year for Student Careers Programme in the Independent School of the Year Awards.

Current Headmaster, Sam Hart, recently joined the school from Winchester College after a successful career in the Army Air Corps. He explained why the bus service has been launched:

“As a day and boarding school, we want families from across the North region to be able to access the School. Our bus service will collect pupils on a Sunday evening, enabling them to take part in the full co-curricular programme here alongside their academic study. We see many day pupils request to flexi-board when they begin to get more and more involved in activities outside the classroom, whether that be our outdoor education provision or our school production.”

The School has recently announced its new Head of Outdoor Education as Pete Keron, who has represented Great Britain in Kayaking five times at the World Championships as well as winning three National Championships in the sport. As well as boasting an impressive outdoor education provision, with an indoor climbing wall and 34 crags within 10km, it also has a state-of-the-art theatre, a purpose built fitness centre, a newly launched wellness centre and dedicated art and design studios.

Parents visiting the School to spectate sports fixtures on Saturdays can then collect children to have part of the weekend at home again.

To find out more about the bus service, call 01729 893000 or email admissions@giggleswick.org.uk. For those interested in Sixth Form places the School is also offering drop-in sessions with Head of Sixth Form, Anne Coward, for those re-considering their post-GCSE options this September.
