Full house for young writers
A full English class of pupils have been selected to have their short stories published in a new book.
The Year 5 children took part in the Young Writers creative writing competition, with each submitting a mini-saga of 100 words around the theme of “A Wander in the Woods”.
The Young Writers competition, now in it’s 29th year, aims to inspire children to become confident and passionate writers - which links perfectly with the school's Learner Profile.
More than 5,000 entries were submitted for the book from across the country, and last week the results were announced with work from all 11 Giggleswick children being selected.
Editor of the publication, Allie Jones, said in a letter to the school: "Having all your pupils' work chosen is something to be proud of, it doesn't happen every day!
“I was impressed with their writing and it's clear that you've really inspired them with A Wander In The Woods - it's been a privilege to read and every piece will make a fantastic addition to the book.”
James Mundell, Giggleswick Junior School Headmaster, said: “It was lovely to see every child in Year 5 selected to have their work published. They really embraced the challenge, and to be selected for the book will boost their confidence.
“Despite having most of the previous term in virtual school, it demonstrated that their writing skills continued to develop and they created pieces to an excellent standard. It is a testament to them and their teachers.”
