Pupils enjoy trip to Aysgarth Falls

A fabulous morning was had by our pupils on our trip to Aysgarth Falls. The children were very lucky to have experts from the North Yorkshire National Park Authority leading sessions to help develop their learning in key subjects such as Science, Geography and Literacy.

In the beautiful autumnal setting, KS2 learnt about properties of rocks and how to identify them as sedimentary, metamorphic, or igneous. Following this they went on a walk to the lower part of the falls, picking up ‘natural treasure' and observing the rock formations by the river.

KS1 spent the morning spotting different types of trees, finding hazelnuts that had been nibbled by hazel dormice and hunting for leaves, using a classification tool to identify them. As a memento, the children were given a 'Tiny Treasure Box' to keep their forest finds in.

A huge thank you to the session leaders from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority for hosting us and to the children who all behaved impeccably and represented our school brilliantly.
